What’s up people!

Long time no talk😁

I’ve been well for the most part. Some ups and downs for sure.

I’ve grown taller and bigger. I’m now 6’1 and 170 pounds! I’ve been working out a lot and loving it. My running has been not so well in that everytime a season starts I get hurt. I have the potential to break 5 minutes in the mile if I can recover fast!

I’m in Santa Barbara right now for spring break. I’m going to visit UC Santa Barbara. It is my first college visit and I if your wondering, I have absolutely no idea I want to do with my life. I probably won’t go to college in Cali but while I’m here on vacation I’m just tryin to see some schools.

I got some good test scores 33 on the ACT (hoping to get 34), which is 99th percentile so I guess I am happy with that. I got a 1980 on the SAT and need that to be at least 2100 to get 95th percentile.

Thanks for a lot of hits today on the blog! Idk if it’s just coincidence or not because it is my birthday?

Anyway have a great day, maybe when I get back I’ll put up some pictures. Btw I have become obsessed with photography and have a DSLR camera. If you want to see before then follow me @alekprus on Instagram!

2013 in review

The stats helper monkeys prepared a 2013 annual report for this blog.

Here’s an excerpt:

The concert hall at the Sydney Opera House holds 2,700 people. This blog was viewed about 12,000 times in 2013. If it were a concert at Sydney Opera House, it would take about 4 sold-out performances for that many people to see it.

I promise to write more soon! I miss you guys!

The Summer of Travel

This is it, this is the big summer synapsis.

Last summer at this point the blog was the biggest thing on my mind, I was posting multiple times a week, getting samples in the mail daily, getting more views than I could even imagine right now. I got 408 views one day and about 2000 views in one week, today the blog has about 28,000 views total so that was huge. Last summer I really didn’t have friends on my mind because quite frankly I didn’t have them. I was blazing through recovery but still very unconnected with the true me.

As you can infer, this summer has been different in almost every aspect. The blog, although it still brings me pleasure, has become a mere afterthought. My life has taken such an upward (seeming) turn this summer, especially in this last week or two with school approaching. To start, I am truly happy with my body, sure I feel I want bigger arms and more overall strength, I am happy and truly feel (almost) like a normal teen. Except I’ve learned (this summer) that I really don’t want to be normal:
Adjective- Conforming to a standard; usual, typical, or expected.
Noun- The usual, average, or typical state or condition.
I’ve learned so much about myself through travel, alone time, learning about other things, exercise, friends, non friends and more. I’ve learned I truly like being the artsy, quirky, opinionated, athletic, different, photographer guy who actually cares about fashion and the world around me extremely. It’s all hard to put in words but I know even though I hate getting crap (ex. made fun of/harassed) about who I am, I truly still wouldn’t want to change myself. So what if I get associated with the word gay, weird, awkward or anything like that, I am happy with who I’ve become AND my 1000 followers Instagram (shameless plug).

So many good things have just recently occurred to get me ecstatic for the coming year! First, I got my class schedule and put it up on Instagram and found out that I have many people who I like and I would like to be better friends with. Second, a senior who graduated last year named Devon, texted me out of the blue and asked if I wanted to hang because he is commuting and all his friends are leaving. I don’t mean to sound like a teenage girl, but we have so much in common like cooking, geocaching, music, learning and he is in the group of friends that I’ve always wanted to “break into.” Just yesterday he told me he knew somebody who wanted to go to homecoming with me and I guessed right away because it’s the girl I was already thinking about asking! I guess I’m a compulsive planner but I can already see her being cool with a very interesting style because she is kind of a “hipster” type. I can already Devon and I cooking up a fancy homecoming meal! My school starts in 13 days and although I’m gonna make the most out of my summer I am very excited to go back!

My favorite teacher once told my class how he names his summers by things that happen. I’m calling this summer, the Summer of Travel. Last Summer would have been the Summer of Recovery. The explanation for the name is simple. I traveled all around Europe with my mom and brother in late June and early July. It exposed me to many new things and I feel blessed to be able to experience what I have at such a young age but it also inspires me to become something in life so I can give my kids the same opportunities. I also traveled on a cross country road trip with my dad the past two weeks and visited places like Boulder, Colorado; Flagstaff, Arizona; St. Louis, Missouri; and I got to see all the beautiful land between those places specifically Utah and all the national parks. I learned how stunning the United States actually are. We have geography like no other country in the world and that’s truly incredible. Driving from Boulder, Colorado down to Flagstaff, Arizona the range of scenery was so incredibly diverse from rolling hills to redrock formations jutting up into the sky to the biggest hole in the world, The Grand Canyon!

Throughout the summer not only did I travel over 15,000 miles, I also did it in what I would have to call perfect weather. Before we went to Germany they had been having major rain and flooding but after we arrived we never once encountered rain besides while driving. Overall, the whole trip to Europe could be described as ungodly hot but that’s better than rain in my opinion (looking back at it now.) When I stepped out of the hotel and had sweat through my shirt in 10 minutes I may not have thought it to be perfect weather now but really I have to work to recall that fact, if it would have rained I wouldn’t remember things being as good!

Explain travels and how perfection followed me.

Explain things learned in travel.

Well this is where I left the post after one night I was very inspired. Since then I’ve had no desire to write, so I haven’t. Life has been pretty good for the most part and maybe one day ill explain, maybe not. I love anyone who has ever followed, liked, commented or anything. You have all helped me in unthinkable ways and I can never repay you so thank you❀

July Foodie Penpals!

Hey again! I’ve been dormant for another week or two, oops. Last week I went to Maryland for a wedding and now I’m in Boulder, Colorado!! My dad and I drove all the way from Ohio here in two days! We did 800 miles Monday, it was all good because we just listened to Gone Girl the whole time, which YOU MUST READ. It is very profane especially hearing it spoken but if you don’t mind that it is a murder/mystery/romance book with so many twist and it’s amazing!

Anyways my partner this month was Amy Crocket and she may blog I just asked but I know she is on Instagram @thecraftyrunner. She post some cool running and weightloss related pictures!

While I’m on the topic of IG (shameless plug) you should follow me because Instagram is all I actually use and I take pride in my photography! Follow me @alekprus97

Anyway here was my box of goodies!

The beef jerky and vanilla almond butter was the best but it was all pretty good! Some of the bars were strange but still good and healthy!

Being in boulder I actually got some Justin’s because my review packets are finally depleted :(120 packets in 10 months) Justin’s was started in boulder if you didn’t know and if you never saw my review check it out but I warn you I was a different person😁

WIAW in Paris!!

This without a doubt will be my most fancy, delectable, amazing WIAW ever. This is WIAW in Paris! I was in Paris as the last part of my European vacation. I visited Germany, Rome and Salzburg before Paris. I did a WIAW For Germany and Rome here! I put other pictures from the trip in two post, here is Germany and Salzburg and here is Rome and Paris!

Steak Frites
Apple and Salted Caramel Breton-Style Crépe

Then we went to a restaurant called Cul de Poule (Butt of Chicken) as recommended strongly by our lonely planet book. It was a small cute place and our best meal in Paris! If you ever visit Paris I highly recommend getting a reservation and going here (even though you may not need one!) It’s near Montmarte in northern Paris!
Appetizer of smoked salmon, cornichons and mustard sauce.
Appetizer of duck over orange essence purĂ©ed potatoes, this was one of the most interesting dishes I’ve had my whole like but we didn’t leave a drop of those potatoes on the plate! 20130716-093732.jpg
Monkfish with creamy quinoa (I want to make this!!)
Some fish I can’t remember with carrots and onion sauce.
This is one of the best plates of food I’ve ever tasted. It’s not too fancy but the flavors were heavenly. It was a (huge) grilled pork chop over a carrot/sweet potato purĂ©e with Asian BBQ sauce (soy based). Thesweetness of the purĂ©e and pork against the sauce made this amazing and I WILL recreate this dish!

M&M 2.0 for dessert was a molten lava cake with peanut butter mouse and crushed m&ms.
To break up food pictures here is my family at the Louvre! I’m on the left in my new Parisian H&M shirt!

The las night for dinner was the dinner I had chosen after much research given that I didn’t have weeks in advance to get reservations. I chose it because it was close to our Homeaway apartment and because it was one of the top rated and reviewed in Paris! This restaurant was called Au Passage. It was a little disappointing but incredible in principle. Everyday the Australian born chef makes up new lunch AND dinner menus, with a dinner menu comprise of 20 items! I think I just came on a bad day and other days I would have LOVED it!
Tuna with radishes, charred onions and a broth poured once it arrived at the table.
Sea snails with potatoes and bream. The snails were chewy and disgusting unless eaten with the potatoes.
Beef Carpaccio, or raw beef slices, with anchovies and miso sauce. This was my first carpaccio and I guess it was like beefy sushi.
Pearl Barley, Celery, Almonds, Ygurt. This one was so strange and good! There was so much contrast in textures and taste!

Scotch Egg, soft boiled egg, coated in sausage and breadcrumbs and fried.

Strawberry ice cream and mint and strawberries

CrÚme Brûlée

Macarons I love!

Well that’s it for Paris! Hope you enjoy!

Marvelous Trekky Monday

It’s kind of pathetic I realized I pretty much only ever post for either MIMM or WIAW. I would post more but what other link ups are there! I like link ups because new people see the blog and I find new people too! Regular old post take a lot of motivation I just don’t have!

So the title may have deceived you, I didn’t actually go on a trek (is that a thing?) It is about my new bike! My parents split the cost and it’s my 16th birthday present 3 months late :) I have been watching Craigslist like a hawk for months now and finally found this bike that seemed just perfect except for the price of $900. It was a brand new 2013 Trek road bike ($1000) and $200 of accessories but my dad didn’t like the price because it was still “used” (for 28 miles.) Long story short we got the price down to 700 and I got it (even though I felt a tad guilty for ripping the guy off kind of.)

The bike is incredible! It looks beautiful and feels beautiful. It’s so light, it’s probably under 15 pounds! My patience and need to find the perfect bike paid off. It is 56cm which should fit me my whole life as long as I don’t grow taller than 6’3″!

I rode it 30 miles in just under two hours Sunday and loved every second of it! I love biking almost as much as running:) I just love being able to go so fast but still getting a very hard workout. I can get so much further than I can running so I can see so much more! This dam was my turnaround point 15 miles away!

I learned something that wasn’t so good though, you can’t do a workout on a bike that and expect to run the next day very well! My thighs were killing me the whole time I ran this morning. I felt weak and didn’t want to turn back before the other guys but I don’t want to get hurt so I decided to anyways.

In other very marvelous news I found a girl that I can be myself with and it’s amazing and I love it! :) It’s just such a playful fun relationship thus far but idk what will come out of it!

That’s all for today! Wednesday I will post WIAW with Paris food so stay tuned! And if you didn’t see last weeks WIAW in Rome and Germany I would have to recommend that you look :)

PS I really apologize for the horrible photo quality!!! I don’t understand wordpress sometimes :(

WIAW in Germany and Rome!

I decided to break up my trip into two sections for WIAW because I have so many (food) pictures its unbelievable! The first 3 days of my trip were in Germany (specifically Bavaria) so I will start with those! After Bavaria I went to Salzburg for 2 days!

This is actually the airplane food on the way over. It was some Asian chicken but it was truly good! The rice was like sushi rice!

Yoghurt flavored gelato at Neuschwanstein Castle (see this post for pictures of landmarks named in this WIAW)

My hotel in Munich’s incredible free breakfast, a fried egg, muesli and a caramel machioto :) I’m not sure if ever mentioned it by I discovered a love for foamy cappuccinos after trying one at Starbucks! I blame Amanda for always tempting me with her coffee shots!

Goulash at a Munich beirgartin (beer garden like Octoberfest)

Food at a 1200 year old restaurant in Salzburg near the Sound of Music graveyard. First is bread and spreads, second scallops and risotto, last is vienerschnitzel.

Grilled chicken is my favorite food <3 in Rome!

A warm fresh croissant and cappuccino was breakfast before Roman sightseeing!

A fried risotto ball for lunch!

An amazing dinner in Rome with calamari, pasta and sea bass

So that was my WIAW! I appologize for the small pictures. My laptop is completly jacked! :^(

Next week I will share my food from Paris! It was just s amazing as you would imagine! ;)

I just cant

PS: If your a fan of oatmeal and you’d like a delicious, custmizable healthy oatmeal check out ! It has so many healthy exciting options! I’m getting a cake batter blend soon and I’ll tell you how it is!
