Track is over. I really can’t believe that track is over. It went so fast and has been the busiest, funnest months of my high school career yet. I made it through my first running season without getting injured! There were a couple scares along the way of getting hurt, but they ended up being nothing luckily.
I loved (pretty much) the whole season. I never liked speed work or races really because I’m just not fast enough! When other guys hit there top speed I lagged behind. I know I used to be able to hit that speed but distance running has changed me (: My PR’s for the season where 5:16.7(1 mile) for the 1600, 11:27.7 for the 3200(2 mile) and 2:25 for the 800(half mile). Those are the only three events I ran. I think my favorite was the mile but I was better at the two mile technically speaking probably. I started the year with a time trial mile of 5:33 so I dropped 16 seconds and I’m fine with that! I ran at least 3 or 4 varsity races so I’m hoping to get a letter (not that it matters.)
I realized a couple things throughout the season.
1.I don’t love track but its better than tennis because its really about the social aspects that come with a team and meets.
2. I don’t like to run fast (this is not new just more concrete in my mind now.
3. Food doesn’t really matter. On nights of meets I wouldn’t eat a real meal until I got home I snacked with my cravings and didn’t gain at all. I probably look my best right now actually! (:
4. I’m not as shy as I thought. I went to all the track meets even when I didn’t have a race just to be social. I have met new people specifically girls. Oh yeah I don’t think I ever posted but my relationship didn’t work out but I’m confident I can find a better one!
5. I found a new pre-race ritual to do! Usually I just mosey around nervously feeling bad for myself and sizing up my competition. Now I put on big bass headphones and blast some rap with a good fast rhythm. I do my warmup sprints and drills feeling invincible.
The funnest race of track was this Saturday. I ha already pr’ed in the mile and eaten a hamburger but it was time for a 3200. I used #5 and warmed up. I felt like a superman. I got an inside spot on the waterfall start line. The fun went off and so did I. I took the lead and it was incredible. I hadn’t done that all season. Leading the race is amazing because nobody is blocking you view and you feel so free. It feels more effortlessly like you aren’t trapped in. Anyways, I kept the lead for most of the first lap and ran a 65 second 400 (for non trackletes that is a 4:20 mile pace and really quick!) I had a huge smile on my face for the whole race but especially in those first two laps and whenever I passed the 200m mark with my friends standing there. The 3rd lap as I passed them I overtook a kid and screamed “YOLO” XD. I ended up exactly tieing my PR but it really was all for fun and I know I could have beat it if I raced smart!
The funnest experience of track, well I couldn’t really choose just one. It would be meeting all the new people I met and becoming better friends with my own teammates. I really feel like part of a group at least at meets. Back at school still not so much but its better.
I know I have forgotten some things but that’s all for today! Happy Mothers Day!
P.S. It is marvelous that even though I was invited I decided not to go to a party with alcohol. It ended up being busted and I would have been in huge trouble!
