I can’t believe it’s over

Track is over. I really can’t believe that track is over. It went so fast and has been the busiest, funnest months of my high school career yet. I made it through my first running season without getting injured! There were a couple scares along the way of getting hurt, but they ended up being nothing luckily.

I loved (pretty much) the whole season. I never liked speed work or races really because I’m just not fast enough! When other guys hit there top speed I lagged behind. I know I used to be able to hit that speed but distance running has changed me (: My PR’s for the season where 5:16.7(1 mile) for the 1600, 11:27.7 for the 3200(2 mile) and 2:25 for the 800(half mile). Those are the only three events I ran. I think my favorite was the mile but I was better at the two mile technically speaking probably. I started the year with a time trial mile of 5:33 so I dropped 16 seconds and I’m fine with that! I ran at least 3 or 4 varsity races so I’m hoping to get a letter (not that it matters.)

I realized a couple things throughout the season.

1.I don’t love track but its better than tennis because its really about the social aspects that come with a team and meets.

2. I don’t like to run fast (this is not new just more concrete in my mind now.

3. Food doesn’t really matter. On nights of meets I wouldn’t eat a real meal until I got home I snacked with my cravings and didn’t gain at all. I probably look my best right now actually! (:

4. I’m not as shy as I thought. I went to all the track meets even when I didn’t have a race just to be social. I have met new people specifically girls. Oh yeah I don’t think I ever posted but my relationship didn’t work out but I’m confident I can find a better one! :)

5. I found a new pre-race ritual to do! Usually I just mosey around nervously feeling bad for myself and sizing up my competition. Now I put on big bass headphones and blast some rap with a good fast rhythm. I do my warmup sprints and drills feeling invincible.

The funnest race of track was this Saturday. I ha already pr’ed in the mile and eaten a hamburger but it was time for a 3200. I used #5 and warmed up. I felt like a superman. I got an inside spot on the waterfall start line. The fun went off and so did I. I took the lead and it was incredible. I hadn’t done that all season. Leading the race is amazing because nobody is blocking you view and you feel so free. It feels more effortlessly like you aren’t trapped in. Anyways, I kept the lead for most of the first lap and ran a 65 second 400 (for non trackletes that is a 4:20 mile pace and really quick!) I had a huge smile on my face for the whole race but especially in those first two laps and whenever I passed the 200m mark with my friends standing there. The 3rd lap as I passed them I overtook a kid and screamed “YOLO” XD. I ended up exactly tieing my PR but it really was all for fun and I know I could have beat it if I raced smart!

The funnest experience of track, well I couldn’t really choose just one. It would be meeting all the new people I met and becoming better friends with my own teammates. I really feel like part of a group at least at meets. Back at school still not so much but its better.

I know I have forgotten some things but that’s all for today! Happy Mothers Day!

P.S. It is marvelous that even though I was invited I decided not to go to a party with alcohol. It ended up being busted and I would have been in huge trouble!

Return of the reviews

I doubt anybody noticed, but I haven’t wrote any reviews for at least 5 months. I stopped around Christmas time and just never gotten back to it. I still have a list of reviews I need to write and feel bad that I never write them but over the summer I am going to try to write some but I will try to keep them interesting!

Meijers grocery store chain recently contacted me about trying there new cereals. They wanted me to try three new types. They sent Blueberry Muffin Squares, Multigrain Toasted Oats, and a Fiber Complete with Probiotic and Fruit cereal.

They asked me to try them and review them but also tell my readers to try them! I really do recommend all three of these!

20130501-165943.jpg

If you looking for a sugary treat and like blueberry muffins. The Blueberry Muffin Squares are definitely for you! They are like cinnamon toast crunch but blueberry muffin flavor! I don’t think I could eat them straight but mixed with the other cereals it was good!

20130501-165834.jpg

The Multigrain Toasted Oats were my favorite overall. I have tried the Cheerios equivalent and I really prefer these. The are not as dense as real Cheerios and not as sweet. They are much lower in calories than most cereals (110 calories for 1 cup). And they are made in Poland! My dad’s home country!

20130501-170546.jpg

Last was the Fiber Complete with Probiotic and Fruit cereal. It was not the best tasting but you don’t buy a fiber cereal for taste. I liked the little probiotic disc. My grandma (a frequent fiber cereal eater) was impressed with the amount of fruit! She claims they say and show fruit but there’s never enough sadly.

Well that’s it for today I will do a better WIAW next week and this will be explained.

20130501-171623.jpg

P.S. I mentioned how I was sopposed to tell my “readers” to try these out, but who are my “readers”! I know I have some but you should email at aleksanderprus (at) yahoo .com! I love hearing from readers and just talking about anything!

The long awaited running post

Well here it is with weeks of anticipation finally the running post.

Running has never been a bigger part of my life than it is now. I have track everyday, a long run on Saturday and a recovery run with one of my best friends usually followed by a study sesh every Sunday morning at 7!

Track has been going for a month and a half and has only a few weeks left and I see no injury in the near future. I think I may finally finish a running sports season! :D *knocks on wood*

This season has been the best season yet because a new sophomore joined who is pretty much at the same level as me and is a really cool guy. He is quitting soccer for XC too! He definitely makes the weekday runs and meets funner more fun.

My weekend run on Saturday is my best run. I have been doing it for about 6 months know. When I started the furthest is gone was 7 miles in a row. Within a month I did this ten mile race. Then in February I did a 14 mile race (this post is still in my drafts and never posted I guess.) For the past two weeks I have ran 13+ miles on Saturday. Most people in that group are ramping up for a half or full soon and I think I am going to do the same but more on that later!

On Sunday ,I have run 5 miles the past three weeks at 7AM. My friend is an early riser but so am I and I plan on doing this even throughout the summer! She is one of about 3 girls I am really truly comfortable around and she is a pretty good runner even though she doesn’t run track. She can keep a steady 8:15 ish pace without trouble and we talk the whole time. Just the whole run is a peaceful time that I love.

As expected I have some new track PR’s! I ran a 5:20 mile two weeks ago. I ran a 2:29 800. I haven’t ran anything else yet but I hope to try a 3200 before the season ends. I am going to letter for Varsity because I have run in almost all of the varsity meets so far! I am hoping to PR tonight as an anchor on a distance medley relay. It is a 400, 800, 1200, 1600. I am hoping to break 5:20!

Although track is technically going well I still don’t love it. It’s a lot of hard work and miles go by slow compared to my weekends. It’s good training for my summer plans though!

My summer is only 22 school days away and my list of things to do is growing. I really want to challenge myself and have fun like I haven’t the past two summers. I am really consumed by the idea of running a race longer than 14 miles. I feel like I am capable and pretty much ready to right now. I think it is more impressive to do something like a 20 miler at age 16 than it is at say 18 or 20. I see myself running for as long as I can but the longer I wait the more “average” the feat becomes. I know it’s impressive regardless of age but I am just so competitive and crave extremeness :) haha

I am probably going to get a job at my favorite place in my town, the running store, Up and Running! I won’t do it until summer but I think It would be amazing. It would be fun, I would learn, I would make money, and the discounts :) They have never hired a high school kid but they know me so well that I am probably going to get hired!

I guess unrelated to running but I am getting a road bike soon to train with and just to ride far and fast. I can’t wait for days were I can just go like 20 miles away on my bike then come back with the sun shining on my skin the whole time.

In the summer I am also going to Germany in the last two weeks of June, my cousins wedding in July an probably Flagstaff, Arizona to my dads condo! I also am very hopeful I get to do at least some modeling because all this exercise is really improving my body I think! And I am eating more than ever!!!(:

Well goodbye! I highly recommend going to run if it is nice out where you live!(:

What I Consumed Wednesday

WIAW is too mainstream, how about WICW!(;

I just cant believe how busy I have been lately. This combined with my “Summeritis” has not been good. I just can’t wait for summer my plans are so big and my time not large enough! I will be gone probably about a third of summer at least for 2 weeks in Germany, 1 week in Arizona and hopefully at least one week in Chicago for modeling.

Luckily even in times of crazy schedules I still make eating well a priority and what follows is just that.

20130423-162134.jpg
The menu for this said “fire-grilled” and it was clearly fried. It was good but not at all what I wanted.

20130423-222451.jpg

This just sorta happened after my 13 mile run Saturday #noshame.

20130423-222458.jpg

Yes you saw that right sausage and egg on french toast with syrup and pb!(;

20130423-222506.jpg

Slow roasted salmon with risotto, pesto and lemon zest

20130423-222511.jpg

Lobster bisque with pesto. This I was proud of! I made it very vagually based on a recipe and it was great! I had never used whole lobster before and ehh it was a little gross.

20130423-222520.jpg

Strawberry shortcake was the third course to that wonderful meal with Mallory and my grandparents. And a wonderful post track snack the next day!

20130423-222534.jpg

The front of my house is so pretty!(:

I hope you liked my post and come back to read soon about how my running has been going!!

Summeritis

Is that even a word? I’m not really sure actually! Probably not but whatever I still have it. It’s only 26 more (school) days till summer here and it’s definitely starting to get to me. I have 2 A’s, B’s and C’s and that is just not good. This picture has described my life perfectly as of late.

20130423-140027.jpg

This is me in so many ways. I care about grades but don’t like homework but know I’m smart enough that getting bad grades is unnaceptable.

I know I promised a running post last Monday and still have yet to write such thing. Luckily (and sadly) I got kicked out of the library for this week of study hall because I was talking to much so I will be able to write that post though!

I want to be strength and gain muscle but I don’t want or feel like “working out” besides all track stuff. I actually want to lift but not alone or anytime with a meet within 3 days. When I lift I try hard and am sore for at least 2-3 days. I know once I start lifting more this will not be the same but for now it is.

I want to eat good and healthy and gain lean mass if any mass. I have been actually doing really good at this and eating a lot more “intuitively” and just listening to my cravings and giving into them. I think I am actually looking better than a month or two ago too! BUT eating healthy even part of the time still takes time. (I will update the progress page soon!)

I want to have my alone time. My bike rides, my cooking, my reading, my learning. I cherish these moments. The moments when I feel free or the moments I learn something new. I love finding a new blog or meeting someone I can help in anyway. I can’t give those up ever and can’t wait because in summer I can do this all day !

I want to maintain and grow my relationships and friendships but at the same time I don’t. I would love to hang out with friends (guys) more often (I never do). I want to talk to and b closer with my girlfriend. But lately I haven’t had time for either it seems. I love the times I have spending time with people sometimes but with all of the above weighing down on me I just can’t do it all.

It feels good to have gotten this off my chest but now I’m going to respond to my important emails!

See ya tomorrow for a really tasty WIAW post!:)

Also for anyone interested in trying them April 14-20 they will be 50% in all Indianapolis to Columbus area Meijers and maybe more! I would definitely get the blueberry muffin squares as a treat! :)

Also my prayers go out to Boston! I can not believe that somebody would do that. It just isn’t fair! It was such a happy place. People worked hard to get there and now some are dead! Please keep them in your prayers! #prayforBoston

P.S. I really thought I posted this Monday!?:(

WIAW comeback

Sorry for the 2/3 week blogging hiatus! I’m too lazy an tired to even check! I had my first track meet and ran a 5:29 mile! It’s a pr for me but I’m still very disappointed because compared to a lot of guys it’s not very good. I just know that I am a long(er) distance guy and move on! I really despise racing, I had a choice of an 800 meter race or a 1.25 mile speed workout and chose the workout! So on to the past 2/3 weeks food!

The last four were from my spring break in Colorado! I will write about it soon! The very last one was the main components of my diet the past week!(:

Well sorry for not much writing but I hope you enjoyed the pictures! And MAKE THAT CAKE!!

p.s. I have some good news about the future too!
